october 11: North North East (gallery dinner)
Artist Gary Hamel’s genealogy traces his New England roots back to 1621, but he openly admits that, “sometimes I don’t know what it means to be a New Englander. What is uniquely ours? Even in food, it it baked beans? maple syrup? Whoopi pies? Is Apple pie New England?”
For this gallery dinner, Hamel will display a collection of paintings and objects that reflect the landscape, people, and culture of Northern New England (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine) that he has collected over the past 45 years. Between courses of this harvest New England dinner, Hamel will read excerpts from some of the Northeast’s favorite authors.
